EL NOMBRE KAWÉSQAR, UN PROBLEMA NO SOLO LINGÜÍSTICO / THE NAME KAWESQAR, NOT ONLY A LINGUISTIC PROBLEM

Abstract

 En este trabajo se examina el término “kawésqar”, el cual presenta algunos problemas no solo en el ámbito de la lexicografía o de la lingüística, sino también en otros como la legislación chilena o en las relaciones entre las comunidades miembros del grupo étnico que llevan este nombre. Asimismo, se abordan otros nombres que ha recibido la etnia y que han sido diversamente interpretados a través del tiempo.

ABSTRACT

In this article, the term “Kawésqar” is examined with regard to some issues that not only deal with lexicography or linguistics but also with Chilean law and the relationships between the members of the communities that bear this name. At the same time other names given to this ethnic group are studied, which have undergone diverse interpretations over the course of time.
