Abstract

In this paper we evaluate taphonomic processes related to the formation of the bioarchaeological record on northern Tierra del Fuego. We present the analysis of materials from Chorrillos locality (Argentina), altogether with chronological, bioarchaeological and isotopic data. We emphasize the analysis of surface assemblages that have been highly affected by different geological and anthropic processes. Finally, we suggest that regional taphonomy provides a number of methodological tools of great utility for the understanding of this kind of assemblages, allowing their integration into general discussions of subsistence and patterns of land use.
