MEDICINA Y RESISTENCIAS CULTURALES EN LA PROVINCIA DE CHILOE, 1826-1930

Resumen

Esta investigación expone las principales características de las resistencias culturales de la población del archipiélago de Chiloé, durante el siglo XIX, a la llegada de los representantes de la medicina oficial (médicos y vacunadores) a sus comunidades. A través de la revisión de fuentes de archivo principalmente, se busca establecer que la hechicería y la brujería constituirían no sólo una alternativa asistencial para curar los males de los habitantes, sino además una instancia de resolución de conflictos por parte de las comunidades rurales chilotas.

ABSTRACT

This research presents the main characteristics of cultural resistance of the population of the archipelago of Chiloé, in the nineteenth century, the arrival of representatives of official medicine (doctors and vaccinators) to their communities. Through the review of archival sources mainly seeks to establish that sorcery and witchcraft constitute not only a caring alternative to cure the ills of the people, but also an instance of conflict resolution by the chilotas rural communities.
